Spider-Man Animated Series is a platformer released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, developed by Western Technologies and published by LJN. Depending on the region, you may also know it as Spider-Man. It blends platformer and action elements.

It landed about 4 years into the SNES's life. Other notable SNES releases from 1995 include Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.

It is part of the Spider-Man series; on the SNES you can also try Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety, The Amazing Spider-Man: Lethal Foes and Spider-Man: Venom: Maximum Carnage. The series also appears on other systems with Spider-Man (N64) and Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six (NES).

This is a solo experience: one player, no waiting on anyone else.

Pick it if…

  • you want to run, jump and explore
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)

Maybe skip it if…

  • you get frustrated by precise jumps and limited lives
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing Spider-Man Animated Series is like

Platformers are all about movement: running, jumping and timing your way across levels full of gaps, enemies and secrets. The best ones feel great to control within seconds and then slowly teach you to master every leap.

Tip for newcomers: Retro platformers often have limited lives and few checkpoints. Learn one level at a time, look for hidden 1-ups, and don't be shy about using a save feature when it is available.
