Developed by Nintendo, Star Fox arrived on the Super Nintendo in 1993 as a shooter. Depending on the region, you may also know it as Starwing. It blends shooter and shoot 'em up elements.
It landed about 2 years into the SNES's life. Other notable SNES releases from 1993 include Super Mario All-Stars, Secret of Mana and The Lost Vikings. Among the 26 SNES shooters in our database, it ranks #1 by legacy score.
It is part of the Star Fox series; on the SNES you can also try Star Fox 2. The series also appears on other systems with Star Fox 64 (N64) and Star Fox Command (DS). Nintendo also made Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Mario Kart for the SNES.
This is a solo experience: one player, no waiting on anyone else.

What playing Star Fox is like
Shooters are built around aiming and firing, from first-person corridor blasters and light-gun games to run-and-gun stages and multidirectional arcade shooters.
Tip for newcomers: Retro shooters were designed for CRT TVs and original controllers; light-gun games in particular need special hardware or alternative controls on modern screens.
