Developed by Taito and published by Nintendo, Space Invaders DX arrived on the Super Nintendo in 1994 as a shooter.

It landed about 3 years into the SNES's life. Other notable SNES releases from 1994 include Final Fantasy VI, Donkey Kong Country and Super Metroid. Among the 26 SNES shooters in our database, it ranks #17 by legacy score.

It is part of the Space Invaders series; on the SNES you can also try Space Invaders. The series also appears on other systems with Space Invaders (2600) and Space Invaders (NES). Taito also made Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, Arkanoid and Darius Twin for the SNES.

Space Invaders DX supports up to 2 players, whether that means taking turns or going head-to-head.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)
  • you have a friend to play against
  • you've played the SNES hits and want something less obvious

Maybe skip it if…

  • you are not a fan of fast-paced aiming and twitch reflexes

What playing Space Invaders DX is like

Shooters are built around aiming and firing, from first-person corridor blasters and light-gun games to run-and-gun stages and multidirectional arcade shooters.

Tip for newcomers: Retro shooters were designed for CRT TVs and original controllers; light-gun games in particular need special hardware or alternative controls on modern screens.
