Ranma 1-2 is a fighting game released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo, developed by Atelier Double and published by Ocean.

It came out in the SNES's second year on the market. Other notable SNES releases from 1992 include The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart and Final Fantasy V.

It is part of the Ranma 1/2 series; on the SNES you can also try Ranma ½: Hard Battle and Ranma ½: Chōnai Gekitōhen. Atelier Double also made Cyber Knight II: Chikyū Teikoku no Yabō and Power Soukoban for the SNES.

Ranma 1-2 supports up to 2 players, whether that means taking turns or going head-to-head.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for a quick session (under an hour, or endless arcade fun)
  • you have a friend to play against
  • you've played the SNES hits and want something less obvious

Maybe skip it if…

  • you prefer story-driven games or have no one to play against

What playing Ranma 1-2 is like

Fighting games pit two characters against each other in short one-on-one bouts. Depth comes from learning special moves, combos and each character's strengths.

Tip for newcomers: Pick one character and learn their basic special moves before branching out. Fighting games are at their best against a friend at a similar skill level.
