Released for the Nintendo DS in 2008, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier is a role-playing game developed by Monolith Soft Inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

It landed about 4 years into the DS's life. Other notable DS releases from 2008 include Pokémon Platinum, Professor Layton and the Curious Village and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

It is part of the Super Robot Wars series; on the DS you can also try Super Robot Wars W and Super Robot Wars Gaiden: Masō Kishin – The Lord of Elemental. The series also appears on other systems with Super Robot Wars R (GBA) and Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2 (GBA). Monolith Soft Inc. also made Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans and Soma Bringer for the DS.

This is a solo experience: one player, no waiting on anyone else.

Pick it if…

  • you want to get lost in a long quest
  • you have time for an epic journey (20+ hours of adventure)

Maybe skip it if…

  • you want instant action rather than menus, story and grinding
  • you are looking for something to play with friends
  • you only have a few minutes at a time

What playing Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier is like

Role-playing games trade reflexes for strategy and story. You build a party, level up, manage equipment and travel across a large world, usually through menu-based battles.

Tip for newcomers: Retro RPGs can require some level grinding and rarely tell you exactly where to go next. Talk to every townsperson, save often and use a guide if you get stuck: there is no shame in it.
