Choplifter II: Rescue & Survive is a shooter released in 1991 for the Game Boy, developed by Beam Software and published by JVC.

It landed about 2 years into the Game Boy's life. Other notable Game Boy releases from 1991 include Metroid II: Return of Samus, Final Fantasy Adventure and Yoshi.

It is part of the Choplifter series; on the Game Boy you can also try Choplifter II and Choplifter III. The series also appears on other systems with Choplifter (5200) and Choplifter (ColecoVision). Beam Software also made WCW: The Main Event, The Punisher: The Ultimate Payback! and Baby T-Rex for the Game Boy.

Choplifter II: Rescue & Survive supports up to 2 players, whether that means taking turns or going head-to-head.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)
  • you have a friend to play against
  • you've played the Game Boy hits and want something less obvious

Maybe skip it if…

  • you are not a fan of fast-paced aiming and twitch reflexes

What playing Choplifter II: Rescue & Survive is like

Shooters are built around aiming and firing, from first-person corridor blasters and light-gun games to run-and-gun stages and multidirectional arcade shooters.

Tip for newcomers: Retro shooters were designed for CRT TVs and original controllers; light-gun games in particular need special hardware or alternative controls on modern screens.
