Released for the Game Boy Advance in 2005, Ultimate Spider-Man is an action game developed by Activision. It blends action, beat 'em up and action-adventure elements.

It landed about 4 years into the GBA's life. Other notable GBA releases from 2005 include Pokémon Emerald, Mario Party Advance and WarioWare: Twisted!.

It is part of the Spider-Man series; on the GBA you can also try Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace, Spider-Man: Battle for New York and Spider-Man 3. The series also appears on other systems with Spider-Man (N64) and Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six (NES). Activision also made Doom, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and Alienators: Evolution Continues for the GBA.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a single-player game, so it's one to enjoy at your own pace.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)

Maybe skip it if…

  • you prefer slow, thoughtful games over reflex tests
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing Ultimate Spider-Man is like

Action games test reflexes and nerve. Expect fast enemies, tight controls and stages you clear by reacting quickly and learning enemy patterns.

Tip for newcomers: Retro action games are often short but tough. Treat early deaths as practice runs; every attempt teaches you where the next threat comes from.
