Pac-Man World is a platformer released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance, developed by Namco and published by Zoo Digital Publishing. This GBA release is a port or adaptation of a game that first appeared in 1999.

It landed about 3 years into the GBA's life. Other notable GBA releases from 2004 include The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Sonic Advance 3.

It is part of the Pac-Man series; on the GBA you can also try Pac-Man Collection, Pac-Man Pinball Advance and Pac-Man World 2. The series also appears on other systems with Pac-Man (2600) and Pac-Man (5200). Namco also made Klonoa Heroes: Densetsu no Star Medal, Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 3 and Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage for the GBA.

Pac-Man World is a single-player game, so it's one to enjoy at your own pace.

Pick it if…

  • you want to run, jump and explore
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)

Maybe skip it if…

  • you get frustrated by precise jumps and limited lives
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing Pac-Man World is like

Platformers are all about movement: running, jumping and timing your way across levels full of gaps, enemies and secrets. The best ones feel great to control within seconds and then slowly teach you to master every leap.

Tip for newcomers: Retro platformers often have limited lives and few checkpoints. Learn one level at a time, look for hidden 1-ups, and don't be shy about using a save feature when it is available.
