Developed by Capcom, Mega Man X arrived on the Super Nintendo in 1994 as an action game. Depending on the region, you may also know it as Rockman X. It blends action and platformer elements.

It landed about 3 years into the SNES's life. Other notable SNES releases from 1994 include Final Fantasy VI, Donkey Kong Country and Super Metroid. Among the 158 SNES action games in our database, it ranks #1 by legacy score.

It is part of the Mega Man series; on the SNES you can also try Mega Man 7, Mega Man X2 and Mega Man X3. The series also appears on other systems with Mega Man (NES) and Mega Man 2 (NES). Capcom also made Street Fighter Alpha 2, Breath of Fire II and Final Fight 2 for the SNES.

This is a solo experience: one player, no waiting on anyone else.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)
  • you want to experience one of the SNES's defining games

Maybe skip it if…

  • you prefer slow, thoughtful games over reflex tests
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing Mega Man X is like

Action games test reflexes and nerve. Expect fast enemies, tight controls and stages you clear by reacting quickly and learning enemy patterns.

Tip for newcomers: Retro action games are often short but tough. Treat early deaths as practice runs; every attempt teaches you where the next threat comes from.
