Developed by Toys for Bob and published by Eidos Interactive, The Unholy War arrived on the PlayStation in 1998 as a fighting game. It blends fighting and action elements.

It landed about 3 years into the PS1's life. Other notable PS1 releases from 1998 include Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2 and Tomb Raider II.

Toys for Bob also made Disney's 102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue, Pandemonium 2 and Majokko Daisakusen: Little Witching Mischiefs for the PS1.

The Unholy War is a single-player game, so it's one to enjoy at your own pace.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for a quick session (under an hour, or endless arcade fun)
  • you've played the PS1 hits and want something less obvious

Maybe skip it if…

  • you prefer story-driven games or have no one to play against
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing The Unholy War is like

Fighting games pit two characters against each other in short one-on-one bouts. Depth comes from learning special moves, combos and each character's strengths.

Tip for newcomers: Pick one character and learn their basic special moves before branching out. Fighting games are at their best against a friend at a similar skill level.
