Developed by Hudson, Bomberman arrived on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985 as a puzzle game.

It belongs to the NES's earliest wave of games. Other notable NES releases from 1985 include Super Mario Bros., Excitebike and Ice Climber.

It is part of the Bomberman series; on the NES you can also try Bomberman II. The series also appears on other systems with Bomberman 64 (N64) and Super Bomberman 3 (SNES). Hudson also made Adventure Island 3, Faxanadu and Doraemon for the NES.

This is a solo experience: one player, no waiting on anyone else.

  • you want story, exploration or action
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing Bomberman is like

Puzzle games challenge pattern recognition, planning and quick thinking, from falling-block games to single-screen logic puzzles.

Tip for newcomers: Puzzle games are perfect for short sessions and often have endless or score-attack modes, so they never really end.
