Developed by Realtime Associates and published by EA Sports, NHL Hockey arrived on the Sega Game Gear as a sports game.
It is part of the NHL series. The series also appears on other systems with NHL '94 (SNES) and NHL 99 (PS1). Realtime Associates also made Captain America and The Avengers, Quest for the Shaven Yak Starring Ren Hoëk and Stimpy and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi for the Game Gear.
NHL Hockey is a single-player game, so it's one to enjoy at your own pace.
Pick it if…
- you want to race and compete
- you have time for a quick session (under an hour, or endless arcade fun)
- you've played the Game Gear hits and want something less obvious
Maybe skip it if…
- you need current teams and rosters
- you are looking for something to play with friends
What playing NHL Hockey is like
Sports games bring football, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, wrestling and more to the console, from simulation-style management to over-the-top arcade action.
Tip for newcomers: Arcade-style sports games are the easiest to enjoy today; simulation titles may have outdated rosters but still offer satisfying gameplay.
