Developed by Sims and published by SEGA, Alien Syndrome arrived on the Sega Game Gear in 1992 as an action game. This Game Gear release is a port or adaptation of a game that first appeared in 1987. It blends action and shooter elements.

It came out in the Game Gear's second year on the market. Other notable Game Gear releases from 1992 include Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage and Defenders of Oasis. Among the 24 Game Gear action games in our database, it ranks #10 by legacy score.

It is part of the Alien series; on the Game Gear you can also try Alien 3. The series also appears on other systems with Alien vs Predator (Jaguar) and Alien (2600). Sims also made Tom & Jerry: The Movie, Disney's Aladdin and Fred Couples Golf for the Game Gear.

This is a solo experience: one player, no waiting on anyone else.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)
  • you've played the Game Gear hits and want something less obvious

Maybe skip it if…

  • you prefer slow, thoughtful games over reflex tests
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing Alien Syndrome is like

Action games test reflexes and nerve. Expect fast enemies, tight controls and stages you clear by reacting quickly and learning enemy patterns.

Tip for newcomers: Retro action games are often short but tough. Treat early deaths as practice runs; every attempt teaches you where the next threat comes from.
