Disney's Tarzan is a platformer released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Activision. Depending on the region, you may also know it as Tarzan.

It came out in the GBC's second year on the market. Other notable GBC releases from 1999 include Pokémon Pinball, Conker's Pocket Tales and Bugs Bunny & Lola Bunny: Operation Carrot Patch. Among the 99 GBC platformers in our database, it ranks #16 by legacy score.

It is part of the Disney series; on the GBC you can also try Toy Story 2, Toy Story Racer and The Emperor's New Groove. The series also appears on other systems with DuckTales (NES) and DuckTales (Game Boy). Digital Eclipse also made X-Men: Wolverine's Rage, Alice in Wonderland and Batman: Chaos in Gotham for the GBC.

This is a solo experience: one player, no waiting on anyone else.

Pick it if…

  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)

Maybe skip it if…

  • you get frustrated by precise jumps and limited lives
  • you are looking for something to play with friends

What playing Disney's Tarzan is like

Platformers are all about movement: running, jumping and timing your way across levels full of gaps, enemies and secrets. The best ones feel great to control within seconds and then slowly teach you to master every leap.

Tip for newcomers: Retro platformers often have limited lives and few checkpoints. Learn one level at a time, look for hidden 1-ups, and don't be shy about using a save feature when it is available.
