Crash Nitro Kart is a racing game released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance, developed by Vicarious Vision and published by Universal Interactive.

It landed about 2 years into the GBA's life. Other notable GBA releases from 2003 include Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Sonic Battle.

It is part of the Crash Bandicoot series; on the GBA you can also try Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced, Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure and Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage. The series also appears on other systems with Crash Bandicoot (PS1) and Crash Team Racing (PS1). Vicarious Vision also made Bruce Lee: Return of the Legend, Madagascar and Madagascar: Operation Penguin for the GBA.

Crash Nitro Kart supports up to 4 players, whether that means taking turns or going head-to-head.

Pick it if…

  • you want to race and compete
  • you have time for a quick session (under an hour, or endless arcade fun)
  • you have a friend to play against
  • you've played the GBA hits and want something less obvious

Maybe skip it if…

  • you want a story or exploration rather than laps

What playing Crash Nitro Kart is like

Racing games range from realistic driving to kart racers with weapons and shortcuts. Races are short, making them great for quick sessions and split-screen rivalries.

Tip for newcomers: Learn each track's racing line and braking points; in kart racers, item strategy matters as much as driving.
