Developed by Mobius Entertainment and published by The 3DO Company, Army Men: Turf Wars arrived on the Game Boy Advance in 2002 as an action game. It blends action and shooter elements.

It came out in the GBA's second year on the market. Other notable GBA releases from 2002 include Sonic Advance 2, Metroid Fusion and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Four Swords.

It is part of the Army Men series; on the GBA you can also try Army Men Advance and Army Men: Operation Green. The series also appears on other systems with Army Men: Air Attack (N64) and Army Men: Sarge's Heroes (N64). Mobius Entertainment also made Max Payne, A Sound of Thunder and Barbie Horse Adventures: Blue Ribbon Race for the GBA.

Army Men: Turf Wars supports up to 4 players, whether that means taking turns or going head-to-head.

Pick it if…

  • you want to fight, blast and test your reflexes
  • you have time for an evening or two (roughly 1–6 hours to see it through)
  • you have a friend to play against
  • you've played the GBA hits and want something less obvious

Maybe skip it if…

  • you prefer slow, thoughtful games over reflex tests

What playing Army Men: Turf Wars is like

Action games test reflexes and nerve. Expect fast enemies, tight controls and stages you clear by reacting quickly and learning enemy patterns.

Tip for newcomers: Retro action games are often short but tough. Treat early deaths as practice runs; every attempt teaches you where the next threat comes from.
